Research to Application

Sea Grant uses a three-tiered approach of research, extension and education to generate and transfer new information to coastal and Great Lakes community members. Basic and applied research by Sea Grant colleges is informed by the needs of coastal communities. Extension specialists work with professionals and residents to apply the knowledge gained through research. Educators share scientific information to inform decisions, train a skilled workforce and increase environmental literacy among all coastal and Great Lakes residents.

In North Carolina, science and local knowledge advance a local oyster business.
