Hatcheries are pivotal to aquaculture production. Most hatcheries exist near the ocean and use natural ocean water to grow oysters and other shellfish 🦪. Due to ocean acidification and harmful algal blooms occurring more frequently, aquaculturists ensure that the water they are using is clean to keep our seafood safe.

Sea Grant-funded researchers from @VASeaGrant are finding ways to increase oyster production and keep the shellfish we enjoy safe for us to eat.
