Coastal Flood Risk Reduction Course

Washington Sea Grant staff members are certified to teach the FEMA-certified Coastal Flood Risk Reduction Course.  This performance level course is designed to provide an introduction to flood-risk reduction opportunities within coastal communities. The course incorporates scenario-based group activities, along with instructor-led discussion, intended to develop the participant’s ability to identify opportunities for coastal floodplain management. Targeted towards a broad cross section of professionals involved in emergency management, fire services, coastal zone managers, planners, developers, business and education, the courses focus on both structural and non-structural mitigation approaches to flood risk aiming to increase the resilience of communities to flooding events.

Sea Grant announces $19 million in federal funding opportunities to address the prevention and removal of marine debris. These opportunities are a component of nearly $3 billion in targeted investments for NOAA in the areas of habitat restoration, coastal resilience and weather forecasting infrastructure through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.
