University of Guam Sea Grant achieved Coherent Area Program status in 2012. Their mission is to integrate and apply research, extension, and education activities to sustain and develop island environments while integrating knowledge and cultural perspectives of the island’s people.

Sea Grant and U.S. Coastal Research Program invest in strengthening resilient coastal communities

Through a joint competition with the U.S. Coastal Research Program (USCRP), ten new projects were selected for a total of $3.9 million in funding to translate research into application for communities. Additionally, Sea Grant programs across the nation received an additional total of $4.2 million in NOAA Sea Grant funds to increase local capacity, engagement, research, and implementation for addressing resilience challenges.

Guam Sea Grant becomes an Institutional Sea Grant Program

NOAA and Sea Grant are pleased to announce that Guam Sea Grant has achieved status as a Sea Grant Institutional Program, a designation of growth from the program’s previous Coherent Area Program status. As an Institutional Program, Guam Sea Grant will be able to increase its contributions to the national Sea Grant network and enhance the practical use and conservation of Guam’s marine and coastal resources.
