Our Team

Amara Davis, MS

Outreach Coordinator
Amara Davis is the Outreach Coordinator for the National Sea Grant College Program, based in Silver Spring, MD. Her focus areas include partner and community engagement, internal and external communications, and an intentional focus on incorporating diversity, equity, inclusion, justice, and accessibility into Sea Grant’s work.

Amara represents Sea Grant through her work with the America the Beautiful initiative and the Federal Interagency Council on Outdoor Recreation, authors articles highlighting Sea Grant’s work, coordinates Sea Grant’s conference and event efforts, and spends as much time as she can spare creating beautiful graphics for the office.

Amara holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Marine Sciences from Savannah State University (She loves her HBCU), where her research interests included Panulirus argus virus 1 in spiny lobsters and fishers’ knowledge of the disease. She was a 2021 Knauss fellow and Rethink Outside fellow and has interned with Schmidt Ocean Institute. She also has professional experience in Communications and Tourism through her work with the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism as a Communications Executive.

Besides her professional and academic experience, Amara was a Bahamian national athlete, competed in the 2013 IAAF World Championships, and was a member of the 2012 Olympic team.

A born, bred, ga dead, tru tru Bahamian, when Amara isn’t working, you can find her outside chasing the sun; planting stone fruit and wishing for mango trees, and debating her decision to move further away from the equator; or inside filling her home with good food for the simple pleasure of telling her kids, “We have food at home.”
