Our Team

Brooke Carney, MPA, MS

Assistant Director for Engagement
Brooke Carney
Brooke Carney is the acting Assistant Director for Engagement for the National Sea Grant College Program. In this role, she oversees the communications, outreach, publications, extension, DEIJA, and tribal and indigenous affairs activities of the National Sea Grant Office. Additionally, she serves as the Federal Program Officer for the west coast and Pacific programs.

Through her work, Brooke strives to advance meaningful connections between nature, science, and the people who live, work, and play in the coastal and Great Lakes areas of the U.S. Her work is driven by the phrase, “a community is only as resilient as its most vulnerable member.”

Brooke holds masters degrees in Public Administration and Biology from Georgia Southern University (Go Eagles) and University of Alaska Anchorage, respectively. She is based in Anchorage, Alaska where she spends summers digging in her garden and winters dreaming of the day when her garden will be unfrozen and uncovered from the snow. A Georgia native, she is determined to successfully grow southern veggies in her northern garden. (She harvested three okra last year.)
