Gulf of Mexico Sea Grant programs reduce anxiety and uncertainty of fishing and tourism leaders by providing information on oil spill science

The members of the Gulf of Mexico Sea Grant oil spill science outreach program have built relationships with the oil spill response community as well as the fishing and tourism industries. Sea Grant oil spill specialists have become the “go-to” source to validate or clarify broadly shared oil spill-related information, including newspaper articles about published science that may adversely affect those industries.

Sea Grant shares facts and detailed explanations to industry leaders concerned about oil impacts on their livelihoods. The industry leaders trust the information provided by Sea Grant due to the relationships between the people Sea Grant serve and Sea Grant professionals.
