Sea Grant’s commitment to cleaning local beaches and shores

Across the country, coastal and Great Lakes Sea Grant programs have committed to cleaning their local beaches and shores of marine debris. Guam Sea Grant hosted a beach clean up event where they collected six 55-gallon bags of trash and two 55-gallon bags of aluminum cans in just two hours. Woods Hole Sea Grant holds community-based cleanups to not only make their beaches clean but also collect local and regional data critical to stopping pollution at the source. Puerto Rico Sea Grant sponsored local, non-governmental organizations to conduct beach cleanups at nine different locations around Puerto Rico, removing almost 5,000 lbs of trash from over 51 acres of land.
