In collaboration with other Great Lakes Sea Grant programs, Wisconsin Sea Grant created a marine debris teaching tool: Trash Trunk. This all-ages resource describes marine debris, teaches about different plastics and their composition, and helps students understand the impacts of marine debris in aquatic ecosystems. The loanable Trash Trunk offers an educator’s guide and 14 lesson plans with the supporting materials needed to perform each activity. Many lessons meet state educational standards. This educational tool was used to reach 1,130 youth in 2021 and won two national communication awards.
